Tips to Surviving First Year of University

The first year of university can be quite daunting. Having a new start in a new city with new people, it's all so different. Here are a few tips that came in handy on my first year of university.
Everyone is in the same boat. What you are experiencing, everyone else is too. The anxiety you feel as you drive up to your new accommodation for the year, the nerves kicking in as you go and meet your new flatmates; it's new for everyone so don't be afraid that you are in this alone.

What is the Chinese Culture like?

Coming from the UK, some of the scenarios you come across and the way of life amongst the Chinese people is vastly different to what we are used to. Some good, nice, amazing to see in everyday life; others just unpleasant, horrid and rude. The habits in which Chinese people have can be quite shocking to what you may be used to. Sadly, you are likely to pick up these habits that are embedded into the Chinese culture and lifestyle, it comes natural after a while. So natural that you don't realise you have become a part of that culture yourself.

Solo Travel : My Experience

Travelling solo for the first time gave me mixed feelings. I think it is quite normal to feel anxious and a bit scared as you're stepping onto that first plane to a country you have never been to before. It didn't properly sink in for me until I landed at my first destination, Laos.

Get to Know Me

Apart from the obvious signs from my blog which you know about me, I haven't properly given some facts about me. I have quite a different past to some people so get ready for a shock! Some of these are hidden in posts but thought it would be easier to put them all in one place :)

If you didn't know already from my blog, instagram, twitter etc., I am currently living in Shanghai, China for a year. I am on my year abroad and have my final year at university coming up in September...ready to freak out any day now.

I used to live in Taiwan. When I was younger, my family and I moved to Taiwan for my Dad's job for 4 years. To this day, I want to go back and live there. This is the reason to why I am in Shanghai right now studying Chinese.

Already in my life, I have moved houses 8 times with my family AND lived in 11 different accommodations, including university.

I have an older sister, 22, who also studies Chinese at university and lived in Shanghai last year for her year abroad. She is coming to visit me for 3 weeks in June!

I work at Marlborough College, the same college which Kate Middleton and Jack Whitehall went to.

Zoe and Joe Sugg used to live in the same county as me, they actually lived in the same town my mother now works in, which is only 20 minutes away.

I am grade 6 in piano, and hopefully will be seeing my favourite pianist, Ludovico Einaudi, next month in Shanghai.

In the last year, from last March to now, I have travelled to 8 countries and 25 cities/towns within those countries.

*inserts embarrassing story* When I was younger, I got my head stuck in a radiator. I know right, how is that possible?! Well, I have no idea.

Only a few things I could think of but that's me and some things you probably didn't know before.

What are some strange/funny facts about you? Let's get to know each other!

Your Guide to South East Asia Street Markets

The cheap and grotty looking markets are what excites most foreigners to get good bargains and gifts for family and friends back home, and a treat or two for yourself. These are the markets which sell anything and everything for cheaper but worse quality.

Travel Items People Don't Tend to Consider

There are some life-saving items you may not think about when packing your travel bag for your travels and that can come in handy at times. It is surprising how many people forget the simplest of things, me being one of them. The first one, for example, is one I need to upgrade on as it's quite important and mine definitely isn't good enough, whoops! Some of them are not essential but they are useful to have just incase something goes wrong along the way.
